For a while I have been struggling with letting go of secular music. After talking to someone, it seems that that kind of music isn't something I should listen too. However the songs keep playing in my head and I don't know if that's alright as long as I think about God. What do you guys think? It's just that loving the world seems like it results from listening to secular music.

Happy birthday!!!

No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,  that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.

(Jesus said this to Nicodemus and the Holy Spirit moved John to record it in his gospel. The reference is John 3:13-21)

Now to give you a bit more insight into what God is saying here, because we know assuredly that what Jesus said that is recorded in the Bible (as well as what His Spirit moved His chosen prophets and apostles to write) are the Words of God. The word for “believe” in the Greek is pisteuō which means “I.to think to be true, to be persuaded of, to credit, place confidence in.” And we know from James that belief is not mere mental assent. For example, even the demons confessed that Jesus was the Son of God and knew that it was true, but that doesn’t mean they have everlasting life. For “faith without works is dead.” (James 2:14-26) The angels who do have everlasting life are those who “excel in strength” and who “do His Word, heeding the voice of His Word.” (Psalm 103:20) James also said that we, likewise, are to be “doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving ourselves.” (James 1:22) So we cannot stop at just believing that it is true what God said, though it is true, and some people take a while to even come to that conclusion, calling the Bible “a book of myths” or “a book of lies.” But that is not enough to save us, we also must do what God said to do in His Word, “purifying our souls through obeying the truth”, as Peter said in 1 Peter 2:2, or even as Jesus says here, we must be those who “do the truth, that our deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” As for the angels that sinned, Peter points out in 2 Peter 2:4 that “God did not spare them, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment.” This is also the fate of unrepentant sinners, and of those who “turn from the holy commandment delivered to them” (1 Peter 2:21.) So I am just writing these things to you in case you didn’t know them, that you could repent of your sin, and start walking in accordance with God’s Word, because that would be of eternal profit and value to you.

With all the love that is in Christ Jesus, and with full faith and assurance in His Word,

Tiffany.

No problem! :) Here are the other scriptures from the new Testament on light verses darkness. These, I believe, are appropriate because your username "seeker of light." :D I am Tiffany by the way. One thing I'm truly grateful for is how Jesus has brought me out of darkness into His marvelous light. He is teaching me how to cast off the works of darkness and walk as a child of the light. But it does take obedience on my part, because I've noticed how easy it is to get carried away with wrong thoughts and wrong feelings back into doing the very things He has delivered me from (malice, anger, bitterness, etc) and then I need to confess that and start yielding myself by grace through faith in His Word to His nature (which is merciful, kind, loving, etc.) If you have any prayer requests or Scriptures to share, I encourage you to do so. :D

(Mat 4:16) The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

(Mat 6:23) But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

(Mat 10:27) What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

(Luk 1:79) To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

(Luk 11:34) The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

(Luk 11:35) Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

(Luk 12:3) Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

(Joh 1:5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

(Joh 3:19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

(Joh 8:12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

(Joh 12:35) Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

(Joh 12:46) I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

(Act 26:18) To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

(Rom 2:19) And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

(Rom 13:12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

(1Co 4:5) Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

(2Co 4:6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

(2Co 6:14) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

(Eph 5:8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

(1Th 5:5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

(1Pe 2:9) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

(1Jn 1:5) This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

(1Jn 2:8) Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

(1Jn 2:9) He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
